Why will my wardrobe doors not close flush after I assembled them?
Hinged wardrobe doors have three axes of adjustment: side-to-side (gap between doors), depth (how far in or out the door sits relative to the carcass face), and height. Most self-assemblers adjust one axis and assume the other two are fixed. In practice all three need to be set in sequence: depth first, height second, side gap last. We do this on every door.
Do you assemble IKEA PAX with hinged doors?
Yes. PAX hinged door assembly requires the carcass to be squared before any hinge is mounted — because the hinge cups are drilled relative to the panel face, and a racked panel changes every measurement. We also install all PAX interior fittings (KOMPLEMENT shelves, rails, drawers) and adjust all door overlaps for consistent 3 mm gaps.
My hinged wardrobe doors are sagging over time. Can this be fixed?
Yes. Door sag (the door droops and the bottom corner hits the frame on closing) is almost always a hinge cup that has worked loose in the panel — the screw holes have stripped. We re-drill at a slight offset, insert dowel to reinforce the hole, and remount the hinge. If the panel itself has delaminated, we advise on repair or replacement.
Can you fit soft-close hinges on an existing wardrobe that is slamming?
Yes, if your existing hinges are Blum or Hettich 35 mm cup — which most furniture uses — soft-close add-on clips can be retrofitted without replacing the hinge. We supply and install these at a per-hinge cost. For a 4-door wardrobe with 3 hinges per door, the total cost is usually under $60 for parts plus the labour call-out.
