How do you handle glass door panels on a display cabinet?
Glass panels are handled with cotton gloves at all times — fingerprints on tempered glass etch into the surface during assembly under workshop-bright lighting, and are very difficult to remove. We apply foam edge tape to the door frame rebate before seating the glass to prevent the glass from contacting bare wood or metal. Each panel is visually inspected for chips at the edges before installation — edge chips are the precursor to spontaneous tempered glass breakage.
My IKEA DETOLF display cabinet had a glass shelf crack during assembly. What happened?
DETOLF glass shelves are tempered — they should not crack during assembly unless they are overloaded or edge-chipped before load was applied. The most common cause we see is the shelf pin being in the wrong hole (too far from the wall, so the shelf spans more than designed) or the shelf being loaded immediately after seating before the pin has fully engaged. We check pin engagement before any load is placed.
Can you install integrated LED lighting inside a display cabinet?
