Is wall anchoring really necessary for a Billy bookshelf or shoe rack?
BCA guidelines recommend anchoring any furniture taller than 1.2 m in households with young children. A fully loaded Billy bookshelf can tip with a lateral force as low as 15 kg — well within what a toddler pulling on a shelf generates. IKEA includes an anti-tip strap in the box for exactly this reason. We install it properly into concrete, not just into plasterboard.

Yes. KALLAX units used as room dividers need to be anchored to at least one wall or have a stabilising back — a free-standing KALLAX filled with books will tip. We assess your setup and recommend the safest configuration for your space.
