How long does bunk bed assembly take?
A standard two-bunk metal or wood frame (IKEA TUFFING, MYDAL, or equivalent Taobao model) takes 2 to 3 hours. Bunk beds with integrated storage drawers, a trundle, or a study desk extension add 45–90 minutes. Triple bunks take 3.5 to 5 hours.
Is wall anchoring required for a bunk bed?
BCA guidelines recommend anchoring furniture over 1.2 m in homes with children — a bunk bed at 1.6 m or more clearly meets this threshold. More importantly, the top bunk generates significant lateral force when a child rolls over during sleep. We anchor to the concrete wall at the head of the bed using M8 Fischer plugs at no extra cost.
My Taobao bunk bed has a pull-out trundle. Can you assemble the drawer mechanism?
Yes. Taobao bunk beds with trundle drawers have a common failure mode: the drawer casters are installed at the wrong height, causing the drawer to jam or derail after a few uses. We set caster height with the drawer loaded (simulating real use) so it rolls cleanly.
Can a bunk bed fit in a 3-room HDB bedroom?
A standard twin-over-twin bunk (about 100 cm x 200 cm footprint) fits in most 3-room HDB bedrooms, which are typically 9–11 sqm. You need roughly 50–70 cm of clear space on the ladder side and 80 cm of ceiling clearance above the top mattress. Measure your ceiling height first — BTO flats are 2.6 m, older resale flats can be 2.4 m, which leaves very little headroom.
What if the top bunk guardrail gap is too wide for safety?
EN 747 specifies a maximum guardrail gap of 75 mm for children under 8. Some Taobao frames arrive with non-compliant gaps. We measure before and after assembly. If the gap is non-compliant, we flag it to you and advise on solutions (additional rail sections, gap reducers). We will not sign off a bunk bed we are not confident in.
